Did you ever wonder what the radio jockey means when she announces "the DOW has fallen 120 points to 11,425 and the markets will close within the hour?"
In this talk I will demystify the "Dow" for you. (By the way the "Dow" is formally known as the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA)) You will learn a little bit of the DJIA's history, what stocks make up the DJIA, how is the DJIA broken down by industry, how is the DJIA calculated and, lastly, why should we care about the DJIA. At the end of this seminar you'll be able to say I now get "Tao of the Dow".
This event is sponsored by the UMA Faculty Senate and the Office of the Provost. If you are interested in giving a presentation please contact Jodi Williams 621-3341 or jodi.williams@maine.edu
